If you are a friend stopping by, I greet you warmly.

If we haven't met before, allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Burkhard Daniel, but you can call me Burk. I was born on 21 September 1976, which means that I have the pleasure of sharing my birthday with Leonard Cohen, Bill Murray, and H.G. Wells. I am sure there are many others, but those are people that I have respect for, and so I am honored to have something in common with them.

I was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. For the first 15 years of my life it would have been necessary to say "East-Berlin"; but today that distinction is no longer important. I have lived most of my life here in Berlin, except for that eventful and exciting year I spent in Chicago, Illinois as an exchange student in 1999/2000.

My parents both come from Dessau, a town in Eastern Germany best known for the fact that it is home to the Bauhaus architectural movement. My father, Peter Daniel, is a mechanical engineer and a tool maker. He can fix everything. It is from him that I inherited whatever technical talents I possess. My mother, Monika Daniel, used to be an economist back in the days before the wall came down, but is now a doctor's aide. I also have an older brother, Christian, who in December 2002 made me the proud uncle of little Lucas Bela Daniel. That boy is quite definitely the cutest baby in the world. And I will hear no arguments!

In 2002 I graduated from the Berlin University of Technology with a degree in Computer Engineering. Since September 2002 I have been making a living as a freelance System Software Engineer, enjoying the freedom and independence my profession affords me.

I love my work, but there's so much else to life beside it!

I fill my spare time with music. For me, music is immensely important. I enjoy both making music myself and listening to music other people make. I have been playing in bands ever since I got into high school. Luckily, at the moment, I have the great honor of being a member of not one but two rock bands: dryad, and, more recently, Sequence. In the former I sing and play the guitar; in the latter, I confine myself to singing only. I also enjoy writing the lyrics for the songs we do in those two bands.

Another thing I love doing is theater. In 1997 I joined the Berlin University of Technology’s TU English Drama Group, and have been unable to let go of it since. Being given the chance to impersonate different people on stage is a great thing. Plus, I meet loads of great people there. I know many of my friends from there, and I am grateful for that.
